The Mindel Half-Bath

Mackenzie and Dave Mindel bought their 1913 American Foursquare home in 2017. With a love of entertaining friends and family, a need for a bathroom on the first floor became apparent. The couple wanted a historically accurate half-bath that would accommodate their needs and blend seamlessly with their eclectic mid-century pieces.

Utilizing existing material and space as much as possible, the half bath was tucked into an unused part of the kitchen that previously housed an awkward closet and finished with class white subway tiles and hexagonal floor tiles.

In an effort to integrate historic features throughout the house, Mackenzie and David decided to add an rounded arch to the dining room doorway that matched the original double-wide archway inviting guests from the front entry into the living room.

Through the consultation with a historic preservationist in La Crosse, the couple selected the best design scheme to fit their needs and budget. Fixtures and vanity were selected by the owner to complement the small space with my advice on spacing. The result is a pleasant addition that fits into the houses historic feel, while accommodating modern needs.
